Perito Urology Travels to Sin City for AUA 2025: Vegas, Penile Prostheses, and a Few Good Laughs

AUA 2025

This past weekend (April 25–28, 2025), the Perito Urology team packed their bags — and their finest surgical pearls — and headed west to Las Vegas for the American Urological Association’s (AUA) 120th Annual Meeting.

Representing our team was Dr. Paul Perito, Dr. Alfredo Suarez-Sarmiento, Jr., and Brett Levitt, PA-C — and yes, they managed to squeeze in some fun between a whirlwind of panels, masterclasses, and reconnecting with old friends (and making a few new ones).

For those who don’t know, AUA’s Annual Meeting is the Super Bowl of Urology. Thousands of urologists from around the world gather to share the latest research, debate surgical techniques, and drive forward the future of men’s health.

And this year? It was all happening under the electric lights of Vegas.

Dr. Perito Hits the Main Stage

One of the weekend’s highlights? Dr. Paul Perito was invited as a panelist for the high-profile session:  “Intraoperative Management of Select Penile Prosthesis Scenarios” — moderated by Dr. Jay Simhan and featuring some of the brightest minds in sexual medicine, including Drs. Helen Bernie, Tobias Kohler, Charles Welliver, and Faysal Yafi.

During the session, the panel dissected complex penile prosthesis scenarios — from separate cut-down techniques to low submuscular reservoir placement and everything in between.

Presentations from top surgical minds like Dr. Mohit Khera and Dr. John Mulhall laid the groundwork, and then the panelists (including Dr. Perito) brought the real-world wisdom: the battle scars, the tricks, and the candid advice you only get from decades in the OR.

The discussions were lively, brutally honest, and packed with pearls. One thing was clear — succeeding in penile prosthetic surgery isn’t just about technical knowledge. It’s about mastering decision-making in the operating room, pivoting when necessary, and sometimes, plain old surgical instincts.

Mastering the Craft: Optimizing Outcomes with the Legends

As if that wasn’t enough, Dr. Perito also joined forces with two giants of the field, Dr. Steve Wilson and Dr. Tobias Kohler, for a Masterclass titled “Optimizing Penile Implant Outcomes.”

This session pulled back the curtain on what separates good implant outcomes from great ones.
Think:

  • How to keep things minimally invasive without compromising results.
  • When to adjust and adapt in real-time.
  • And how subtle differences in approach can mean big differences for patient satisfaction.

In a field where every millimeter matters (literally), sessions like this remind us why it’s important to never stop learning — no matter how many implants you’ve placed.

Dr. Suarez-Sarmiento, Jr. and Brett Levitt: Building Bridges

Meanwhile, Dr. Alfredo Suarez-Sarmiento, Jr. and Brett Levitt, PA-C, were busy on the ground — networking with colleagues, reconnecting with old friends, and strengthening relationships with UroFill® providers, both current and prospective.

If you spotted two guys running around and hustling through the Venetian expo floor — that was probably Alfie and Brett, keeping the Perito Urology momentum strong and making sure that our broader provider network continues to grow.

(And rumor has it, they even managed to sneak in a few laughs and maybe — maybe — a celebratory cocktail or two. After all, what happens in Vegas…)

Final Thoughts: Why AUA Matters

Yes, AUA is about the latest science. Yes, it’s about honing surgical technique.
But at its heart, it’s about community — building a global network of urologists dedicated to raising the bar in patient care.

At Perito Urology, we’re proud to be part of that mission. We’re proud to share what we know, learn from others, and always, always push for better outcomes for our patients. Until next year, AUA — Viva Las Vegas!
