On Thursday, April 27, 2023, prior to the American Urological Association conference, The University of Chicago College of Medicine held the 1st International Symposium on Advanced Genitourinary Reconstruction and Urologic Prosthesis. Dr. Perito and his team were fortunate enough to be invited and take part in this wonderful symposium with some of the best urologists and surgeons from across the globe. Professors hailed from far and wide. Countries represented included Korea, Brazil, Italy, Spain, the USA, and many more. This CME- accredited course provided a comprehensive overview of the surgical management of complex genitourinary cases with an open forum discussion while live surgical cases were performed by international leaders in the field and some of U Chicago’s very own.

Dr. Perito and his colleagues instructed attendees on how to evaluate and manage surgical techniques of complex GU reconstructive cases; discuss the latest evidence-based surgical techniques based on research and best-practice standards and how to describe different urologic conditions, including erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease, and male incontinence. There was also a section of the course dedicated to the creation and implementation of a successful cancer survivorship program. These workshops are essential for providers to improve their ability to provide optimal urological outcomes to their patients and their families.

“Omer Raheem and his colleagues knocked this one out of the park. Live streaming may be the most stressful way to run a meeting but it shows the foundation of their program.

If this is their first year I can’t wait to see number three and number five. Keep up the great work.” – Dr. Perito
