GENERAL INFORMATION FOR Erectile Dysfunction and the Penile Implant

The Perito Implant
a minimally invasive technique for penile implantation.

Erectile Dysfunction and the Penile Implant

The malleable and inflatable penile prostheses are the only alternatives for patients who do not respond to first and second line therapy for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (e.g. Viagra, vacuum devices, penile injections or suppositories).

The penile implant enables men to resume a normal spontaneous sex life. The implant does not make the penis larger; it only allows it to function again. Yet, one must remember that the longer a patient remains impotent without treatment, the shorter the penis becomes.

The implant does not change the way a man urinates or ejaculates. Through a small incision in the hair bearing area above the penis or through a small incision on the bottom of the penis the penile implant is inserted. Once in place, the penile implant is not visible. Fortunately, penile implants have an extremely low failure rate (approximately 1% every five years).

In the unlikely event of a product failure, the penile implant cost is covered with a lifetime warranty. Almost any man with the desire for an active sex life is a candidate for the penile implant.

 CLINICAL ABSTRACTS

Correlation of Pre-op Stretch-Test & Post-op Penile Measurement for Inflatable Penile Prosthesis (IPP)

Paul E. Perito, MD
Presented at the 2009 Sexual Medicine Society of North America Conference

Penile shortening post IPP implant continues to be a concern for all prosthetic urology surgeons. A realistic discussion of post-op, penile length is an imperative aspect of overall patient care. The hypothesis of this study was to develop a predictive index to communicate length estimates. [download full abstract]

The Minimally Invasive Infrapubic Inflatable Penile Prosthesis: A 1000-Patient Review

Presented at the 2009 Sexual Medicine Society of North America Conference

The goal of this study was to further describe and illustrate a simplified approach for the infra-pubic inflatable (three-piece) penile prosthesis and review its efficacy, post-operative morbidity, and resultant patient return to function. [download full abstract]

Intra-facial Placement of the Penile Prosthesis Reservoir: A Novel Technique for the High Risk Patient

Presented at the 2009 Sexual Medicine Society of North America Conference

Bowel or bladder injury during placement of a penile prosthesis reservoir can be a devastating complication. Certain patients, such as cystectomy patients or those with multiple abdominal surgeries, are known to be much more susceptible to this complication. In this study we examine a novel technique of an intra-facial placement of the penile prosthesis reservoir to mitigate the risk of bowel or bladder injury. [download full abstract]
